Polly Pollock Basketry

“Nests”, developed during recent sabbaticals in Amsterdam, are soft, rounded forms with subtle changes in colour, texture and form, and made from paper yarns dyed with gentle eco dyes from my vegetable peelings, giving soft colour palettes. Like a family, or colony of weaverbirds, these intimate, protective forms relate to each other yet have individual strength so can stand independently.

They are made using a random weave structure, worked into with layers of weaving and stitch. The openings are stitched more formally and controlled with coiled basketry creating a contrast between the two elements.
